A chance to stop the foreclosure crisis in your city
Ask your mayor to join our call with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg about mandatory mediation tomorrow at 3 PM EST.
Dear Thomas ,
You wouldn’t know it from the news, but foreclosures are putting families out on the street every single day — still.
And between 4 – 7 million more foreclosures are expected over the next several years. What gets me most is that our solution — mandatory mediation, the “Philadelphia Miracle” that requires lenders seeking foreclosures to mediate a resolution with homeowners — is WORKING. It started working in Philadelphia, and now it’s working in Orlando, and it can work in your city.
Now we have our biggest chance yet to stop many more foreclosures: New York City. That’s right, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is signing on, and he’s joining a call between ACORN and the US Conference of Mayors tomorrow at 3PM EST.
My friends, this is huge. When a big name mayor like Bloomberg signs on, others will follow — as long as they hear from you and me. So join me in asking the mayor of your city to join the call today. ACORN will follow up with your mayor’s office to make sure they are invited to the call — but we need you to sign the petition now and let your mayor know that mandatory mediation is a priority for citizens like you.
In Philadelphia, the Foreclosure Diversion Program requires lenders seeking foreclosures to sit down with homeowners and mediate a resolution. The program has succeeded in keeping 78% of families in their homes.
People in cities and towns across America have had enough — enough of foreclosures, and enough of a system that “resolves” the foreclosure epidemic by sending in the sheriff to evict homeowners and their families.
There is a better way. I’ve seen it work in Philadelphia. I want to see it working all across the country, including in your city.
Please sign the petition today.
In solidarity and strength,
Bertha Lewis
