Draft of email to FSRN producer

firstly, feel free to pass along to other reporters any part of our correspondence. I don’t jealously guard my ideas, and I’m not concerned about other reporters making money from some idea they may have heard through our correspondence. I strive to be an open and collaborative person.

Well, anyway, today I just started brainstorming plans, now that I’ve followed through with a commitment to Columbus’ community radio station WCRS. I’m new to pitching but I’ve done a significant amount of research on food issues as they pertain to FSRN’s and Pacifica’s core principles of ‘speaking truth to power’, challenging the conventional wisdom, and helping our listeners fight against injustice.

So please bear with me. It might take a couple of weeks or more for the two of us or whoever else may be involved to form a plan for a feature. I want my FSRN reporting to have a constructive impact so I’m not rushing to get paid.

I’ve been searching your archives. Sorry for the following tedious list but my searches render relatively little, using terms such as “family farmers,” “food sovereignty,” “community gardens,” “food deserts,” “food justice,” “Via Campesina,”(some headlines but no features about small or family/community farming in the US.) ; “Department of Agriculture.” So I’m glad to help.

I plan to communicate with people working with organizations such as La Via Campesina, Family Farm Defenders, and National Family Farm Coalition to further develop my sense of the national and international food sovereignty issues.
