If feminism and Queer liberation and pluralistic respect for cultural diversity is part of (or even fundamental to) the ‘left’, how ‘left’ was Soviet Union, China under Mao, Cuba under Castro, and various other ‘leftist’ govs and soc movements? How ‘left’ are ecological movements such as organic farming or permaculture? How ‘left’ are vegan movements and animal liberation? Or is ‘left’ primarily a term used by the political right to stoke fear so that working and middle class people act against their own interests?
