As I’ve listened recently to MLK’s speeches and sermons on Youtube, what he says about ‘agape’ love–not liking one’s enemies but loving them “because God loves them” is powerful and not easy for me to dismiss, even though I’m not a Christian and not sure that I ever truly was.
There is an additional challenge that some writers have presented.
They say that by way of loving one’s enemies in the agape sense, though certainly not liking them or loving them in an eros or filos sense, a person can attain at least a small piece of a sort of “god consciousness.”
If I may suggest, a person can embrace these ideas regarding agape love yet not believe in John 3:16 nor believe in various other tenets of Christianity.
What do you think?
