One thought is that if I focus on doing all I can to help others, it in practice does not result in me living unnaturally in the sense of letting people take advantage of me nor in the sense of me neglecting my needs, because if I were to do that, I would be unable to continue to help others.
But if I live to do all I can to help others, it doesn’t involve doing that in the sense of complying with the will or wishes of anyone or everyone I happen to randomly encounter.
