The Organic Movement

“If we switched to all “organic” farming like most of these bleeding hearts want, 2 billion people on this planet would starve to death. The problem is you can never pick which two billion go to bed hungry can you? Forsake the Agricultural Revolution and buy at Whole Foods but, the dirty little secret is that this choice is causing more starvation and hunger around the world. —from “Kirk” http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/eating-animals-by-jonathan-safran-foer#post-258773

“@myliftkk The article is interesting but, unfortunately it’s fantasy. You can’t grow a crop like corn and sustain the yields that we have now without effective fertilizers. Nitrogen is the building block of the plant cell without it there is no plant cell. To the plant you need a favorable climate and strong genetics to maximize plant growth but, you also need a sufficient amount of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium) these are usually the limiting reagents in the biological equation. Less fertilizer use means reduced yield. Reduced yield means increased hunger. You’re a smart guy and I’m sure the people that drafted that report are too but, the bottom line with the whole organic movement is not based in science, it’s set up like some religion.” —-from Kirk http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/eating-animals-by-jonathan-safran-foer/page/2#post-258804
