Is it hypocritical for activists to use social media to oppose corporate abuses of power ?

What do you think ? See also Consumerist Activism

A cynical formulation would be to say that capitalists give us the rope with which to hang them. I wouldn’t think about it or say it that way.

One reason I wouldn’t is that the technological tools we have which enable global social movement organization–such as Facebook, smart phones, the internet, computers, and so on—are the result of human ingenuity.

That ingenuity is not necessarily dependent on giant corporate entities, though there has  been  a correlation between the two. But correlation and causation are not the same.  So, I disagree with those who say progressive and ‘radically progressive’ activists are hypocritical to oppose  corporate abuses of power while using the technological tools involved with social media.

How about eco-activists who use high-tech/energy-intensive social media tools to organize ?
