'Spiritual' Love Key to Success of Social Movements ?

‘Spirituality’ is what seems missing–IMHO– in much of the recent activism I’ve been involved with the past 2 or 3 years, including Occupy.

The ‘radical’ and progressive movements have plenty of intellectual stars. But as of yet, there isn’t a consistently loud and clear call for what King referred to as agape.

I’m glad that sort of higher love for sentient beings doesn’t require theology, because I suspect the fight to defeat corporatocracy and to solve other problems requires it. I suspect the ‘spiritual’ powers the intellectual.

As for the current absence of a call for spiritual love within movements for justice, Cornell West’s speech at Occupy Gainsville on Jan 20—Occupy the Courts—is the only exception to this general rule that comes to mind. Please point out more if you can think of any.

A ‘movement for justice’…hmm. Actually, it’s more accurate to say I’m part of a movement for spiritual love. All other causes derive from the latter.

How well do you relate to the idea of distinguishing ends and means, seeing social movements as the latter and spiritual love as the former ?
