It seems using audio media—even music—as I go about doing other things detracts from my social skills. Someone reading this might think this is odd, but time and again, this seems the case. Even if there is correlation and not causation involved here, I got to act in accordance with that correlation, until better understanding the actual causation, which may never be the case. So, when I use audio media with headphones, I got to focus my attention directly on that, instead of going about doing other things as the audio plays and I indirectly pay attention to it. The latter may be a problem in that it’s a form of para-sociality, whereby I get the sense of meeting my emotional needs, yet am doing it in a way that detracts from my ability to actually relate to people. This applies to listening to recordings of songs to learn for busking.
