As an alternative to religion, ecology seems more viable than secular humanism. Secular Humanism, like religion, seems to result from over-estimating the ecological and cosmological importance of human beings. Using science and other elements of rationalism may be our best tool for becoming more realistic as a human civilization. To me, some of the perspectives that seem to be false solutions to the destructiveness of modern society are as follows : (1) the reversion to superstition seen among some of the New Age folk; as well as (2 ) the obscurantism seen among some of the ‘Anti-Civ ‘ or anarcho-primitivist folk who romanticize ‘primitive’ cultures.
