But how about a greater diversity chants and signs ?
For me at least, the following chants got old after a few marches: “banks got bailed out, we got sold out,” “we are the 99 percent,” and “show me what democracy looks like, this is what democracy looks like.”
Also, how about some uplifting visual and musical beauty, so as to more effectively engage –if not necessarily win—hearts and minds?
The tentacles of giant corporations reach deep into every facet of our survival and quality of life, whether it’s healthcare, finance, transportation, housing, energy, food, water, education, wars, or our legal systems.
Yet protesters and other activists–including myself–who say we oppose corporate rule, have a lot a room for improvement when it comes to having a command of the facts regarding any one of those facets.
Slogans have their place, but we shouldn’t settle for generalizations. If we want to win, we need to understand more of the details so as to deconstruct the talking points of our adversaries, and otherwise improve our strategies.
